The Art Of Refocusing

One of the major mistakes we make as business owners is that we are too close to the day-to-day operations. When you do this, you're not asking yourself if you are on mission as a business. And when this happens, you may need to refocus. This is one of the most difficult and important questions to answer. It'll take some time and introspection to accurately identify your mission - but it's worth it!

In the past, companies usually had a mission that they focused on. Some companies had a long life and managed to stay on course through ups and downs. But over time, other companies have seen their missions drift away from what they started with.

For example, Apple is not the same company they were in the eighties, where they made products like Macs and floppy disks; instead, they are now a company known for its phones and other digital devices. Clearly the company has been able to evolve while keeping their core mission intact.

The importance of having a clearly defined mission statement is that it sets expectations for employees and shareholders alike about what the company strives for in terms of quality standards as well as future goals and directions.

It is hard to stay focused on your business. But it is important to take the time to stay focused on your main mission if you want to succeed. Focus is so important that anyone who has success in a field will tell you it is necessary. That's because humans get distracted by things that are shiny and new. It's not easy, but getting back on track with your mission can be done.

In this week’s episode of our podcast, we talk about the art of refocusing on your mission. Every business suffers from a lack of focus on their mission, but not every business realizes they are on a slippery slope to losing the mission.

Define your core values and they will help you stay on track and keep your eyes on the prize.
