Here Are 5 Things For Your Social Media Schedule

There was a saying we had in the ministry world back when I was a part of it. If something was important and needed attention, you “calendar it.” I mean it got to the point where if you didn’t, things just didn’t get done or important things fell off your radar. You want a meeting with anyone on your team? You calendar it. You want to make sure you talk about a video or graphic coming up? You calendar it. You want to make sure you have time to respond to emails...that’s right you calendared it. And yes...you want lunch? You calendar it. Seriously, as funny as it seems, in my last year in the church world my admin would literally put lunch on my calendar. I was so grateful for her because when I don’t eat, I get hangry.

Your Social Media Calendar is Important Too

Just like putting things on a personal schedule is important, the things you put on your social media are important. Last week we talked about two important questions to ask and there we discussed a couple of ideas for social media. Go back to the previous week and check it out. There we said that your brand isn’t about what you say it is, but what your customers tell other people it is. Social media engagement is crucial for branding. But it can be daunting not knowing what to post every day, so I thought I would share with you a schedule that has helped us at Creative Studio Productions.

5 Things You Should Do When Posting to Social Media

 1. Make the first post of your week about something you want to share with people

2. Do a Marketing post the second day for a blog

3. Have a community engagement post

4. Do a marketing post with a video element

5. Do a “missed it post”

Your First Post of the Week

First, on Monday, make a post around 2 pm that is something you love to share with people, but has nothing to do with your organization. This could be posts about coffee, each week highlight a special coffee you enjoy. For Creative Studio Productions, we post memes on Mondays and call it #monday vibes. We do this because people are just getting back from their weekend and if we can spread a little joy in the mundane, then that is what we are about.

We want to give people a little smile at the beginning of the week. Most of these memes have some sort of relation to the blogs and videos we do. For instance, when we shared about dad jokes in week 2, the meme was a dad joke. It had nothing to do with our organization but also set up the theme for the week.

Your Second Post Celebrates Your Organization

On Tuesday, make a post that celebrates your organization. This can be an event or a blog that is coming up. This post is simple and about your company.

Post Three is About Engagement

Wednesday is community engagement day. Most people have caught up on their emails from the previous week, so make a post that would be fun for them to be involved in. And if you can tie it to your work and celebrate another organization in your community, all the better. For instance, CSP did a post once that was about a logo we did for a Bakery.

But it wasn't just about our logo, we tagged the bakery and said, “if you had to live without one dessert, what would it be?”  You can do posts that are caption contests, polls or other elimination games. But it doesn;t have to be about anything specific. You are just wanting people to engage with your social media.

Your Fourth Post Shows What You're Doing

Thursday is another simple day. It is really celebrating what your organization is doing and how it can help the community. This could be about anything your organization does and then just saying “we are just trying to do our part in the community by ________

Post Five: "In Case You Missed It, ..."

Friday is the easiest post. It is a “In case you missed it.” This is where you pick the blog, post, video, community engagement, whichever one needs a boost or already has good engagement to be seen again.

Doing your social media like a schedule will help you brand your business. Because after all, your product brand or service is not what you say it is, it is what people say about your product brand or service.
